ARE you among those in India's literati who write, love and care for the promotion of poetry in all of India's languages, in all of India's regions, in all of India's creeds and classes ?

If yes, you cannot do better than join the Poetry Society (India). All these are the Society's prime concerns and it has attempted to meet these in an organised way.

The Society has so far organized many poetry conferences, readings and workshops and in future proposes to continue doing so. The society has arranged several All-India Poetry Competitions, in collaboration with the British Council Division of the British High Commission in Delhi. It has also arranged the All-India Poetry Competition for School Children in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India.

In addition it ahs been arranging creative writing workshops for the young poets writing in their mother tongue. They were arranged in many states states including Orissa, Karnatka, Madhya Pradesh , Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana.

The poetry society brings it journal out regularly, in which poems and critical articles are published not only by and for the Society’s Members but from and for poets everywhere in the county. Each member gets the few copy of the journal. The society has not yet started regular book publishing, which requests funds and organization yet not available with it, but it provides advice on publishing and related subjects.

The Poetry Society was launched in summer of 1984 . It has in general attempted to spread an awareness of tradition and collective as well as personal identity, for it is axiomatic that a Societies and Cultural Institutions and values follow from such awareness.

So we invite you to join the poetry society ( India). The cost is minimum, the fruits and satisfaction thereof immense. As the ancient poet Vallana said.

What delight is when the soul of what one says

Appears not in the words themselves

But in the way the words are put together,

This rather than a flavour that is obvious….

Qualification for Membership

An author or a translator of atleast one published collection of poems is eligible to become a life member of the society. Translators of poetry and poets whose poems have been published in magazines, journals and newspapers are eligible to become associate life member.

Membership Fee

Life Membership – Rs. 1500

Associate Life Membership – Rs. 1000
